Heating Tips
Keeping your family warm on an icy winter day is a high priority. A bad heating unit can affect your comfort and your health. If your heat goes out, do whatever you can to keep the cold air from coming into the house. A few items to consider: a switch may have accidently flipped off, the thermostat may need to be adjusted, a circuit breaker may have tripped, or a fuse may be blown.
First, you want to check the thermostat temperature, and time setting. Push the temperature setting about 5 degrees above current setting, and it should kick on within 90 seconds.
Second, you want to check the circuit breaker and fuse box. If the breaker is tripped, reset it. If the fuse is blown replace it with another fuse that has the same amperage. If it does it again after you have tripped the circuit, or installed a new fuse, then call CPR.
Third, if you have a warm-air system, turn off the power and check the fan belt. If needed, reseal the belt if it has slipped off the shaft, or replace the belt if it is broken. If the motor is running noisily, then the bearing may be worn, in that case call CPR.
